With the online provider, the Sign-in Assistant assists a Windows 7 program running on one PC discover and communicate with other PCs that are connected with the same Windows Live ID. Just by connecting your Windows Live ID to the user account on every Windows 7 PC you own, you allow those PCs to find each other and work together more simply than has been possible in the past.
Programs can take advantage of this ability to support scenarios as in the next example: On his homegroup, a user wants to share some documents with his wife but not with his kids. Simply by determining his wife’s Windows Live ID user name, Bob can offer his wife exclusive permission to access documents on his computer.
